According to the Town of Freetown (MA)web page, Major John M. Deene, b 1840, served with the Assonet Light Infantry and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for service at The Battle of Fort Stedman, 25 Mar, 1865. Does anyone know anything further about this gentleman?
