I don't know if this will be of interest to you but I was reading the Montgomery family history-James McConnell Montgomery from Georgia whose family eventually moved to Texas. Rhoda Narcissa Montgomery who married William Henry Dean. Well, it seems that JMCMontgomery owned a slave in Georgia named Ransom-who saved the rail road bridge from burning and was given his freedom. As free as a man could be in those days. Mr. JMCMontgomery was a school friend of Andrew Jackson-they fought in the war of 1812 together. I noticed this name of yours and it just jumped off the page. There are a lot of similarities-so you might like to do some research into the Montgomery family and see if you have a connection.JMCMontgomery was born in 1770 and died in 1842. Some of this colorful folklore could have been handed down in the family or friends. Who knows.Happy hunting. Kay
