The Morning Oregonian (Portland, OR) 21 February 1888 lists the following news: The Albina union labor club, of the city of Albina, was organized last week with thirty members. The club elected its permanent officers as follows: President, H. Wilson; vice-president, G.A. Pollard; secretary, A.J. Scott; Treasureer, William Creighton; J.A. Deeds, Ab. Clark and William Tappenden were appointed a committee to draw up by-laws and constitution. In looking at the 1900 Census you mention that lists the widow and children I noticed that it stated the boy's father was born in VA. The 1850 Census District 8, Botetourt Co., VA lists Jacob A. Deeds, age 2 as the son of Joshua, age 52, occupation Miller and Mary age 39 with siblings Charles G. age 16, Farmer; Elizabeth A., age 14; Patterson M. age 12; and Joshua H. age 10. Parents and children are all listed as being born in VA. The 1860 Census Western District, Lee Co, VA lists Mary, age 50 as a widow with Joshua H., age 20; Jacob A., age 12; Mary M., age 8 and George F., age 4. I don't find Jacob in the 1870 Census but he is in the 1880 Census District 91, Fall River, Greenwood Co., Kansas. Jacob is listed as age 29, Carpenter, born VA; wife Ella, age 21, born (looks like Ill. with both of her parents born Ind.); a daughter Edith, age 3, born Kansas. There is also an Edward Love, age 7 listed as Servant, born KS with both parents born Ind. and what appears to be Chanlz M. age 50, mother in law, born Ind. with both parents born Ind. I think this info. fits with your Jacob. Hope it helps. My Deeds ancestors came from VA originally but I also lived in OR at one time. Patty Notify Administrator about this message?
