I did some work on this Dedrick family in 1999. I have a slightly different version of the name and birth date. I believe that this name is spelled Cornelius. As you will see from the following records Cornelius had an older brother Uborn who died in 1874. I find it strange that he is using this brother's name as his middle name. One of the other researchers on this family showed him as Cornelius Watts Dedrick. Watts was his mother's maiden name. At any rate Cornelius was the son of Samuel Dedrick and Lucy Watts. Here are some of my earlier findings from the 1861 and 1871 Ontario census where he was listed with his family. (By the way the place name is actually Port Rowan which is probably the closest town to his birthplace and the farm where he was raised. It still exists today on the north shore of Lake Erie.)

I found this family in the 1861 census of Walsingham Township, Section 2 on page 43, lines 6-16 where we find the following entries:

Saml. Dedrick, farmer, Baptist, 40, male, married
Lucy Dedrick, Baptist, 36, female, married
Therese Dedrick, Baptist, 14, female, single, attending school
Hugh Born Dedrick, Baptist, 11, male, single, attending school
Cornelius Dedrick, Baptist, 8, male, single, attending school
Annie Ruth Dedrick, Baptist, 6, female, single, attending school
George Dedrick, Baptist, 5, male, single
Charlotte Artensa Dedrick, Baptist, 3, female, single
Ida Emma Dedrick, Baptist, 1, female, single
Margaret Lancy, W.M., 17, female, single
Jeremiah Brandow, W.M., 30, male, single

Everyone was born in Canada West. Everyone was shown as a member of the family. I think this was incorrect for the two last people with different surnames. They lived alone in a 1 1/2 story frame house.

The oldest daughter Theresa married James R. Backhouse 15 Mar 1868 according to the Norfolk County Marriage Register.

The second child shown here as Hugh Born is probably actually Uborn which the census taker spelled the way he heard it.

This family appears in the 1871 census of Walsingham Township in Division 1, page 50, line 16 to page 51, line 6 where we find the following entries:

Dedrick, Samuel, male, 49, born in Ontario, Baptist, Dutch, farmer, married
Dedrick, Lucy, female, 45, born in England, Baptist, English, married
Dedrick, Huborn, male, 20, born in Ontario, Baptist, Dutch
Dedrick, Cornelius, male, 17, born in Ontario, Baptist, Dutch
Dedrick, Annie, female, 15, born in Ontario, Baptist, Dutch
Dedrick, George, male, 13, born in Ontario, Baptist, Dutch, attending school
Dedrick, Dency, female, 12, born in Ontario, Baptist, Dutch, attending school
Dedrick, Ida, female, 10, born in Ontario, Baptist, Dutch, attending school
Dedrick, Fanny, female, 8, born in Ontario, Baptist, Dutch, attending school
Dedrick, James, male, 6, born in Ontario, Baptist, Dutch
Dedrick, Minnie, female, 4, born in Ontario, Baptist, Dutch

From my list of death registrations, Huborn Dedrick died 8 Dec 1874 in Walsingham. His tombstone in the Port Royal Cemetery shows a death date of 7 Dec 1874.

Cornelius disappears from this family before the 1881 census probably because he moved to Michigan. Jerry Bolles on his website shows that he died 15 Sep 1923 in Gustin Township, Michigan. He shows his full name as Cornelius Watts Dedrick. He shows his wife as Jane FOWLER. He shows his oldest son as Samuel Austin DEDRICK, born 17 Aug 1880 in Toronto??, Canada. There are 5 other children in their family. (I did not find any marriage or birth registrations in Ontario for this marriage and birth.)

I would be interested in learning more information about some of the descendants in this family.

Robert Mutrie has produced a genealogy for this Dedrick family as shown on the Norfolk Genealogy website which would help to fill in a lot more of the details for you and would be a worthwhile purchase.
