Someone requested some information about DEDMON/DEADMON Revolutionary Pension Applications so the last time I was at the Nat'l Archives branch here in KC, I abstracted this information. Hope it helps someone.

There are 3 files at NARA for DEDMONs. The given names are Samuel, William, & Mark.

Samuel DEDMON's pension application file is 35887. He served in the VA Continental Line in the regiment commanded by Col. LEWIS for 3 years beginning in 1777. He was originally from Albermarle County, VA. At the time he filed for his pension, he lived in Pike County, IN. He received a pension in the amount of $8 /month beginning 8 July 1818. A note in the file states he died 18 August 1834. No wife's name was mentioned. In his affadavit, he mentioned a brother, no name given, who was living in Montgomery County, KY in 1819.

William DEDMON's widow, Mary, filed for a widow's pension, application # W14610. William served in MASS Line in the Colonel's Company of Col. Nixon's regiment. He married Mary GREEN 13 March 1783 in South Reading MA per the Middlesex County Clerk of Court. They resided in Stoneham, Middlesex County, MA. William "occaisonaly went to sea" and died in Charleston, SC in 1789 or 1790.

Mark DEDMON was granted a veteran's pension (I neglected to write the number down) and his widow, Hannah, was given a widow's pension, W3960. Mark was originally from Baltimore County, MD but while a child, his parents (names & date not given), moved to Rowan County, NC. Mark served in Capt. LIONS Company in Col. LOCKE'S Regiment for 3 months beginning August 15, 1779. He was at the "taking of several Indian towns" . He reenlisted in fall or winter of 1780 and served in Capt. WITEN and William WILSON's companies under Maj. McDOWELL and was at the Battle of Cowpens. He enlisted again in 1781 and served 3 months in Capt. HADEN and Capt. NITEN's company of cavalry under Maj. SMITH in the NC troops. In 1786, Mark moved to the Greenville District of SC and stayed 1 year. He then moved to Rutherford County, NC. Mark & Hannah married in 1784 or 1785. Mark died on 23 March 1839 in Rutherford County, NC. Hannah's affadavit states that she is a resident of Brushy Creek, Rutherford County, NC and is 76 in 184<0?> and gives her age in another letter in 1848 as 84. Among the papers is a fragment that lists, presumably, 4 children, and several grandchildren's birth and a couple of death dates. They are:

No Relation Given, my assumption these are Mark & Hannah's children-Billy

Polly DEDMON was born November 13, 1786
Thomas DEDMON was born January 15, 1788
William DEDMON was born March 12, 1791
Sally DEDMON was born September 29, 1793

Grandchildren as listed on fragment (I was unable to read all of these after Mary but there was an official response to a query which did):

Jacob WOLF/WOLP was born December 26, 1791
Hampton PAGET was born August 29, 1815
Mary DEDMON deceased on February 3, 1826
Thomas H. Grafford DEDMON deceased February 15, 1826
Mark Dedmon PROCTOR was born August 17, 1806
Jessey DEDMON was born March 20, 1809
John DEDMON was born March 30, 181<torn>
Didamy PROCTOR was born February 14, 1812
Carssey DEDMON was born July 15, 1813
Hanner <sic> DEDMON was born November 29, 181<illegible>

Hope this helps somewhat.

Best of Wishes,

Billy
