Hello Art, I am following up on an old post of yours on the Decuir Gen/Forum on Genealogy.com, regarding Mary "sister" Decuir. My Decuir ancestor was Mary Decuir. She was born ca. 1847, parents' names as yet unknown by me. She had a relationship with a Joseph Romero and they had several children. I don't know if they were ever married, or if they were just partners. She may have been his "placee". She and all her children are listed as MU on the 1870 & 1880 Iberia Parish Census Records. Mr. Joseph Romero's name does not appear on these census records but he had to have still been around as late as 1878-79 when the last child was born. That last child was my maternal great-grandfather, Joseph Nicholas Romero. Here are the children by order of birth according to the census records: Mary Romero b. ca. 1866 Therese Romero b. ca. 1869 Louise Romero b. ca. 1873 Laura Romero b. ca. 1876 Joseph Nicholas Romero b. ca. 1878-1879 Could your Mary Decuir and my Mary Decuir be one in the same, or mother/daughter if the dates don't gel? I would appreciate any information you might have on Mary Decuir to help me connect to my Creole roots and family. Thank you so much.
