It is well established on the basis of the will of John [1] Coursey of abt. 1660-61 in Talbot County, MD, that there were four Coursey brothers Henry [2], John [1], William [1], and James [1], and two Coursey sisters Katherine and Jane. There are no records supporting the allegation that these Courseys had a sister named Ann! Their father was Henry [1] Coursey of Dublin, Ireland, who died in Dublin in 1664. Henry [2], John [1], and William [1] Coursey emigrated to Maryland probably from Ireland as early as 1649, and they invariably spelled their name "Coursey" not DeCourcy or DeCoursey. The youngest of the four brothers, James [1] Coursey, lawyer, emigrated from Lincoln's Inn, Middlesex, London, England, to Maryland in about 1676. He joined the Society of Friends (Quakers), gave up the lawyer business, and as a Quaker changed his name from Coursey to Corse in 1696.
William [1] Coursey owned the tract "Whitfield" at one time.
