The Katherine DeCourcy marriage information shown is not the party I'm looking for; however, I do believe that Mary DeCourcy (m. Lewis Skelley) is. Someone from Decatur, Macon County, Illinois, USA found the gravestones and obits for both Edward HIGGINS and Katherine C DECOURCY (Catherine C - found spelled both ways) in Decatur, Illinois and is sending me copies. As yet, I have not been able to locate either party in Illinois prior to and including their marriage about 1898. I do know that he was born in Ireland and came to this country when he was about 1 year old; but don't know how or when he came to Illinois, nor do I know his Mother and Father's name. I am becoming more confident that he had both a sister, Mollie (who married a John Ryan in Decatur) and a brother named Frank (who married a Myrtle ?, place unknown) and believe both brother and sister are buried in Decatur. Hopefully the information being sent to me will provide clues.
Katherine (Catherine) was born in Harristown, Macon County,Illinois, January 1968. I've not been able to track her further.
For the DeCourcy people (perhaps regardless of spelling), I found a historical reference to a Norman knight, John deCourcey who invaded and conquered an area named Downpatrick (County Down), Ulster, Ireland and County Lough, Ireland in the late 1100s and early 1200s. I'll be trying to find more on him - who knows, maybe we are all "nobility"??
