1880 BOONTON, MORRIS, NJ
ADKINS
William age 73, ow business, paralized, cannot write born NJ parents both born NJ

Phebe, age 65, keeping house, cannot write, born NJ both parents born NJ

I found William Atkins in 1840 census for Pequannock, Morris Co. NJ
Males:
1 aged 10-15, 1 aged 30-40

Females: 1 aged 5-10, 1 aged 10-15, 1 aged 30-40

I also found a Phebe Decker in 1840 census for Pequannock, Morris Co. NJ

Males:
1 under age 5, 1 aged 5-10, 1 aged 20-30

Females:
1 under age 5, 1 aged 5-10, 1 aged 20-30

** I don't know why Phebe would be listed as head of house unless Andreas was ill. Maybe that's why he died young ( I presume he did)

I also found several family trees at ancestry.com for your family. One of them seems to have quite good sources for much of what they have posted.

They show Phebe's children with Andrew DECKER as:

Deborah born about 1832, William born about 1833, John born about 1835 and Susan born about 1837

Phebe's children with William Adkins:
Ward born about 1846, Decatur about 1849, Fredrick about 1850 and Charles about 1857

They show William Adkins' children with first wife Sarah Earle ( 1810-1845) as
William Morris born about 1836, Nicholas born about 1839 and Abraham about 1841

So that takes care of all the children shown in census records.

The family tree also shows marriage for Phebe and William Adkins as Dec. 25, 1846 Booton Falls, Morris Co. NJ

They show Phebe's death as March 16, 1888 Taylortown, Morris Co. NJ.They show sources for this as her death record and Surrogate court records

William Adkins died June 8, 1882 - they give death cert. as source

They give approximate date of death for Andreas Decker as 1848 which seems odd to me unless he and Phebe were divorced. If not then he must have died before she remarried in 1845.

If you have access to ancestry.com you can look at all the family trees and see what makes sense to you and what doesn;t. There are some good sources in the Adkins tree.

Carolyn L.
