How interesting.Do you mean that you are very familiar with his work, or that the author was personally well known to you?
I certainly would have asked him, had he been well known to me, how he had established that "Jan sailed as a lad from Bremerhaven, Germany".I do wonder where that piece of information came from, as I have seen nothing in the way of documentation to support this, as I have found nothing to support that Jan emigrated on "The Blue Cock".
I have found mention of an NYGBR article that deals with the soldiers who appear in New Netherland after the arrival of the Blue Cock, but have not yet tracked it down, and also did a little study of the names mentioned in Gehring's translations relating to Captain De Vries' soldiers who were on the Blue Cock, some of whom settled in NA and some of whom went with him on "The Prinses Amalia", returning to the Netherlands,and were among the victims of that shipwreck.
Of course Decker, had he been aboard,(which I personally question) would not have been in this category of soldier.
