Paul:
The first use, by this settler, of the name "Jan Gerritse Decker" is found to be in 1688 as witness to a baptism in the Kingston Reform Dutch Church. At earlier dates it is "Jan Gerritse or Jan Gerritsen". At the time of his marriage in 1664, Jan Gerritse is described as a single man from Heerden, Gilderland, Holland and his wife from "New Amsterdam in New Netherland".
