The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, April 29, 1909

County Recorder A.D. Gray received word of the death of his mother, a few
days since. The brief notice is as follows:

"MRS. SUSAN WOODWARD, mother of A.D. GRAY, died at the home of her daughter, MRS. FLORA DECKARD, in Monroe County, Indiana, April 21st, 1909. Born June 28th, 1818. Would have been 91 years old 28th of June next."

Many Chariton people will remember her as she was here and remained with her
son almost a year, returning to Indiana several months since. Surely her
life work was well done and her days on earth were many and when the summons
came, she was ready and willing to go. There is a pathos in death and yet
there is a sweetness in the contemplation of a long life well spent.
