Seeking information and descendants of Frederick Grant Boatright and his wife Martha Marie "Deckard"
Martha was born June 6, 1867 in Sullivan County, Indiana the daughter of John Wesley Deckard. I have no death information on her other than after 1823.
She married Frederick Grant Boatright on or about September 3, 1891, possibly in Cordele, Georgia or Sullivan County, Indiana. I have no birth or death information on him.
Last known residence was in Cordele, Georgia and Mr. Boatright's occupation was shown as a lawyer.
Three children were born of this marriage two of which were born in Tifton, Georgia.
Bernard Deckard Boatright born July 4, 1893 in Tifton, GA
Frederica Bernice Boatright born November 6, 1899 in Tifton, GA.
The middle child
Frederick Boatright was born September 1, 1896 possibly near Sullivan County, Indiana and died September 5, 1896, Sullivan County, Indiana in infancy.
In 1924 Martha was accepted into the DAR as a descendant of:
Jabob Deckard born about 1757 in Metz, France/Germany and resided in Wythe County, Virginia until about 1830/40. He was last shown in 1840 US Census, Indiana, Lawrence County.
He is said to have died in 1842 in Monroe County, Indiana in 1842, but no proof of this has been documented other than family myths.
Martha's acceptance to the DAR was approved in December of 1923 and her DAR National Number was: 195379. (I have a copy of this document.) Some of the documentation she offered on her application was as follows:
1) Report No. 8, Richmond, Virginia State Library, Revolutionary Soldiers in Virginia Volume #8 Page #134
2) Auditors Account Book XXII Page #315 (copy in pocession.)
3) Illinois Paper--D--10
4) Family Bible
5) Family Records
6) Records of Wythe County, Virginia (County)
In 1967 one Julia Frances Deckard also applied to the DAR and was accepted as well. Her DAR National Number 523625
Sometime after 1967 and for whatever reason someone decided that these records were incomplete or wrong. Martha's and Julia's membership was revoked by the DAR. Jacob was removed from the DAR List of Rev. Soliers List and they are no longer accepting application until someone can come up with new evidence and documents, at which time the DAR will review Jacob's participation in this historic event.
One of the questions to arise was the last name of Jacobs wife. Many believe it was Mary Vance, but no proof of this has been found. It must also be noted that most records show her name as Elizabeth. Unless Jacob was married twice which nothing has been found to indicate this.
Another item of question is the Family Bible. Supposedly they should have been a copy of the page of this bible with her application but apparently it was not submitted or the DAR lost it in their filing process. Either way it has not been located. However, on Martha's application it is checked off meaning that it should have been seen by the Review/Research Board or whoever checked the application at the time. This may be a very vital piece of information if it can be located. If anyone knows of such bible or information of this bible please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Feeling that Martha, Julia, and Jacob are being denied their rightful heritage and place in life. Two other researchers besides myself are trying to reopen his file, so that he may have his rightful place in history. That Martha and Julia be reinstated. That others wishing to join this organization may do so.
Anyone having any information pertaining to the above individuals please contact me.
