Garry, in perusing this site and the Castro site I have come across interesting information. You might check out a post by "William1" June 24,2005 on Castro site. He has a very interesting document posted regarding DeCastro's in Belgium, specifically Waes (Currently East Belgium). My "Castros" were allegedly from the Jewish clan, and supposedly ended up in South America, and eventually Mexico sometime around the Inquisition. Allegedly they either changed the name, or at least dropped the "De" after coming to Mexico. Several migrated from what is now present day Arizona and New Mexico to California. It is interesting to note that included in those migratory records are Lara's and/or their offshoots.
I frankly had never heard of a Belgian connection (though to be honest I haven't looked either) so I found this particular post fascinating and wonder how, or if this might connect to your DeCastros
