DeCastro-Decrastos ?

Does anyone know if these two surnames are related. I have been working on the De Crastos surname. i have heard and believe that they were exiles from maderia. I only know that they came to America between 1840 and 1855. There are De Crastos' listed on the 1850 census also from Maderia but as far as I can tell are not related. What I am curious about is if maybe the spelling was changed when they came to America so that they would fit in. If this rings a bell with anyone please let me know and I will provide more information.
