One of my relatives managed to put together some of the history of our DeBusk line many many years ago. If any of you want it in a microsoft word document just send me an e-mail, I'll just cut+paste for now(see below)

---------------------------------------

This record was compiled by Henry Franklin DeBusk of Gallup, New Mexico and
first produced in 1963.

The DeBusks are descendants of the French Huguenots. The word Huguenots is
a nickname given as early as 1525 AD to a Protestant sect in France. They
assembled at night near the gate of the city of Tours, France, to escape
persecution by King Louis IV and Queen Dowager Catherine DeMedici against
Protestants in France and continued by all Catholic kings until about 1750
A.D.

Around 1750, legend says three brothers: Elijah, Elisha and Elihu, named
DeBusque, DeBoise, or Debaus came to the United States and settled in
Fairfax County, Virginia, which at that time, comprised the western half of
Virginia.

Early research on the DeBusk heritage by Henry DeBusk traced his lineage to
Elijah Debusk, but could go no further. The earliest known of Elisha's
descendants is found in Sumner's Annals of Virginia Law. In 1782, he states
that two orphans, sons of Elisha, were bound out to two families, named
Edmondson and Kithcart. Further knowledge of the family is unknown,
however, he found people of this name in Oregon Missouri, Texas, Kansas,
Oklahoma and Iowa who could not tell him of their ancestors.

The first general census of the U.S. was taken in 1830 and from this and the
1840 Washington County, Virginia census, was listed the families of Elijah
Jr., whose son John Debusk, founded the family of which I am a descendant.

Eaken, James, Ellen, Catherine, Elijah, Sarah & William.

McFarland.
