George E. and Benjamin F. were both in the Civil War together. George surrendered with Lee at Appomattox. They both came back to South Carolina and thence to Mars Hill section of North Carolina after the War. They were involved in a fight with James Rank Deaver at the Forks of Ivy supposedly over an insult to Bens wife Rebecca. They were more or less under the influence of alcohol. James Deaver was running away from George when he produced a pistol and fired one shot which struck George in the heart killing him instantly. James Deaver was acquitted of the killing. James Deaver was shot some years later by a friend of Ben and George, Tom Murray. Tom was later acquitted and was elected to the State Legislature. Source Asheville Citizen Times morgue circa 1882?
