JOSIAH LECONTE, JR bpt. 21 February 1696/97 New York French Church, son of Francois LeConte and Catherine Le Laundier, married a woman whose given name was ESTHER.

Knapp gives this Esther the surname of Besley, saying that she was the daughter of Oliver Besley and Susanne Mercier Besley. This is based on the baptism of their son Francois

Fr. Huguenot Church "conforming"
Francois, bpt. 7 April 1732, born February 14th (no year given but probably the same year) sponsors Olver (sic) Besly and Madame Susanne Besly, his grandparents.

However, Richard Le Conte Anderson, in his two volume LeConte Genealogy says that she was actually Esther De Bonrepos, daughter of Elie. Josiah LeConte, Jr. was a witness to the will of Elie de Bonrepos.

There is no daughter Esther mentioned in the 1772 will of Oliver Besley II, however, had their been a daughter Esther who married Josiah LeConte, she might have been dead before that date.

Does anyone have information on the date of birth of Esther de Bonrepos, or does anyone know what became of her?

Many thanks,

Sharilyn Whitaker
