Joseph H. Diss Debar was born in Phinan, Alsace Loraine, in 1817. His father, Francis Joseph Diss Debar, was purportedly a groundskeeper to Cardinal Rohan of Strasbourg.
Joseph H. Diss Debar married Clara Levassor in 1848; they subsequently moved to Parkersburg.. Clara died in childbirth; the son was taken to Ohio (Cincinnati?) by the Levassors to raise.
JHDDB then married Amelia Cain, August 1857. Amelia was born in Wood County, Virginia, circa 1826. Four of five children were born of this union, one of which died in infancy; one of the daughters married William H. Carleton, born Dublin, Ireland. Marie Carleton was born of this union. Joseph H. Diss DeBar, Marie's grandfather, lived with Marie and her mother in Philadelphia in his later years. Marie Carleton married Harry Irwin Bennett and her only son, Harry Joseph Bennett was born in Philadelphia, January 18, 1900. Harry Joseph Bennett married Mabel Anna Goetz, nee Wills, and their only daughter was Barbara A. Bennett born September 25, 1933. Harry Joseph Bennett remarried to Ann Imbrogno, nee Geiger (birth name was Kathryn Taylor). This second marriage of HJ Bennett resulted in five more children: Carl Serran, Kathryn, Timothy, and twins Debbie and Dorrie Bennett.
