Hey, Patsy. I hope I don't confuse matters here, but I thought I'd share something for what it's worth. One of George Deavours' descendants, Statira < Isaac < George, married into my family, George W. Bowers, brother of my gg-grandfather, John W. Bowers. Anyway, I've been trying to determine the nationality of the Deavours and thought of something that caused me to take a closer look. My paternal grandmother, Gladys Sparks, is a desendant of an interesting family that has several spellings -- Vandever, Vanderford, Van der Voort -- which is pretty close in pronunciation to Deavours. This family is Flemish and goes back to Michael Paul Vanderford, b 1604 in Flanders. His family was in the NY, NJ, DE, MD areas, and George appears to be a patriarchial name. My relative and his descendant, Hollingsworth Vanderford/Vandever was born in Queen Anne's Co, MD and died 1820 in Pendleton Dist., SC. Just thought you might like to know and the possibility that your Deavours are Vanderfords or Vandevers or Van der Voorts. You might want to give a look at the possiblity with George Deavours. By the way, my family had spelled Statira's last name as DeVore. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a connection here. Notify Administrator about this message?
