I am in possession of a letter written by J. C. DEAVOURS to my grandfather, Gus Grier of Hall Co., Ga. dated July, 1935. DEAVOURS and his wife KATE had visited Georgia and wrote the letter enroute back to the Canal Zone. The letterhead was that of the Hotel Martinique, Bdway at 32nd St. New York City, however it was posted from Pedro Miguel, Canal Zone. Have seen reference to JOHN C. DEAVOURS in 1920 census in the CANAL ZONE. Mr. DEAVOURS signs his letter, "your cousin."

My family of GRIER/GREERs came to Ga. from were in DUNCAN's CREEK in LAURENS CO., SC very early and came to GA. about 1826 from SPARTANBURG CO. SC. I am curious as to the connection between these two men. GUS GRIER was born in Hall Co. 1886. I believe DEAVOURS was born in GA as well and maybe around the same time. I believe the DEAVOURS family was from SPARTANBURG, Co. S.C.

Thanks for any insight.
Grier Kimbrel McFarland
