The purpose of this message is to correct some misinformation that I have found in various places on the internet.
In 1880, there are two James H. Deavers on the census record for Erath County, Texas.
One of them married Martha J. Davis on 5 January 1879. This couple is found on the 1880 census in Erath County, Texas. They are also found on the 1900 and 1910 census for Taylor County, Texas. In 1920, a widowed Martha, was living with a daughter and son-in-law in Taylor County, Texas. According to census records they had four children: Edith (b. Dec. 1880), Carl G. (b. Feb. 1886), Quanah K. (b. Sept. 1897) and a fourth who died before 1900.
The other James H. Deaver was living with his father, William J. Deaver, in 1880. This man's middle name was apparently Harrison. He married Adah McCleskey, daughter of Ezekiel Dunagan McCleskey and Catherine Selena Ann Ulmer, on 4 January 1891. This couple is found on the 1900 census for Erath County, Texas and on the 1930 census for Kent County, Texas. I have been unable to find a census record for them in 1910 or 1920. They had five children: Della Catherine, Grace Jewell, Ilva Winifred, Lillah Effie and Odessa Ann.
