My Deatons are from Perry Co. Kentucky (where Buckhorn is). Though I don't have a direct connection there is probably a match somewhere. I found some good information about John Deaton (b abt. 1809 in VA and died aft. 1860 in Perry Co., KY) in the Breathitt Co. Gen Web site. Seems he was the first Deaton to arrive in Kentucky (coming in on foot) and later being appointed sheriff of Breathitt Co. He moved to Grapevine in Perry Co. (right on the Breathitt boarder) and later to Crocketsville. I was able to track him down on the census postings.
