I met the granddaughter of James Turner Deaton Sr. yesterday for the first time. She is 90 years old and very sharp. We have both been researching James Turner Deaton Sr. (born November 15,1826 in Carroll County, Tennessee) He married Mary Jane Maness (daughter of Hiram Maness) We both are trying to find the parents of James Turner Deaton Sr. I have a copy of an old newspaper clipping that states when he was 3 years old he and his parents went to Illinois. They were there about a year when his mother died. He and his father returned to Tennessee. It seems his father remarried and he and his new wife had 7 sons (She didn't remember any mention of daughters. When James Turner Deaton was about 17 years old he and his step mother got into a row and he threw a biscuit at her and made her nose bleed. He thought he had broken it and he ran away from home never to return. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone it would certainly help us find the parents of James Turner Deaton.
