Having several Birds listed in my files, & not knowing which one you refer to as "Old Bird", I will include the information here for the only one that I know is buried in Arkansas. This information is from a letter from Bennie Jane FLEMING, 11 Aug 1997. She states Bird DEATHERAGE, (m Lucinda Allen POLLARD), DOB 17 Jan 1814, Roane Co., Tennessee, DOD 1908, Flippin, Baxter, Arkansas, buried at Three Brothers, Baxter, Arkansas. This Bird is also listed Byrd (Ancestoral File, AFN: 1P9B-M2G) , Bird, Jr., (11 Aug 1997 letter from Bennie Jane FLEMING), & Bird/Byrd Joseph (DGS Newletter Oct 1997, pp 15-17, 18, submitted by John R. DEATHERAGE). Additional info: 1) Byrd DEATHERAGE listed 1891 List of Personal Property Assessed for Taxation, Baxter Co., Arkansas; 2) "Died: Byrd DEATHERAGE, age 93, born 1816 TN, Sunday. Came here before the War--Oldest man in the County." Baxter Bulletin, Mountain Home, Arkansas, Jan 10, 1909 Issue (10 Jan 1909 WAS a Sunday so I do not know if this meant he died that day or the Sunday before which would have been 3 Jan 1909). 3) Exerpt from article by Mary Ann MESSICK from The Baxter Bulletin, 11 Mar 1997, about Three Brothers. "In 1855, Byrd Deatherage and family came from Virginia to north Arkansas and settled at Wilson Spring in Boone County. Later, they settled near the present site of Gassville. When the Civil War broke out, they moved to Missouri because their sentiments lay with the Union. Two of the boys, including John G., served in the Union Army. After the war, the family returned to Arkansas and settled near Colfax, between Gassville and Mountain Home. When Baxter became a county in 1873, Byrd Deatherage was appointed by then--Gov. Baxter as one of the three commissioners to oversee the county's business until an election could be held. Colfax School District No. 8 was organized soon after, with Byrd Deatherage as school director. The first school building was constructed under his guidance. Shortly afterward, the Deatherage family homesteaded land in north Baxter County, in the mountains, not far from the Missouri line and located on what was known as the Old Salt Trail. Present-day Highway 5 pretty much follows the Old Salt Trail."

Since no family affiliation, citing parents or wife, were included in the 2nd & 3rd items listed above, I include it with only the knowledge that this was pertaining to a Bird Deatherage known to be in the same area at the same time. The exerpt from the Baxter Bulletin was included by the lady who wrote the second Baxter County history, so stated by Judi SHARP, 30 Jul 1997, President of the Baxter County Historical Society.

This additional information is included to help justify location & possible place of burial. Lucinda A. DEATHERAGE is buried in Three Brothers Cemetery (Tombstone inscription: Lucinda A. (wife of Bird Deatherage) BORN January 17, 1814 DIED Aug. 10, 1896)
Bird is not listed.
