This is my dad's generation. Father James Barton m Mariah Ann FOREMAN, 26 Jan 1894, Eureka, Tahlequah Dist, Oklahoma, Cherokee
Nation. They actually had 2 licenses [1) Cherokee Nation, 2) United States government because Oklahoma was a territory] but were married under the "customs & laws of the Cherokee Nation". Mariah was Cherokee, she died 2 Dec 1940, Hartshorne, Pittsburg, Oklahoma, BUR, Gowen Cemetery, Gowen, Latimer, Ok. After she died, Grampa Jim married Eula SAWYER, 12 Sep 1944, Latimer Co., Oklahoma. That's pretty much the line-up. A lot of people have Aunt Jack & Aunt Poss mixed up, but I promise they are as listed above -- I grew up with them so I know!
