My grandfather James Gillispie Blaine Deatherage was born in 1891 near Three Brothers Arkansas, he married Ora Maude Grogan in 1914 (she was from Tennessee). They had five children who survived to adulthood: Bernice Benson (my father), JB, Cora Arnelle, Vera Margie, and Herbert Hoover Deatherage. My father and Uncle Herb are deceased. It's interesting that in our family many members were known by their middle names... for example, Blaine was always Blaine to everybody, including his grandkids. We also called him Grandad, but mostly Blaine. My father always went by Benson, Arnelle and Margie by their middle names too. I continue the trend... My name is Ora Marie, but I've always been known by Marie (we lived next door to my grandparents for the first 8 years of my life, so I was told it was to avoid confusion.) I have one child, a son named Blaine! Several of my cousins also named their sons Blaine, so you see what a beloved man he was... My grandparents were just the living end as far as I was concerned. I just loved them so much. I still feel them with me every day of my life. Granny died in 1974 from a stroke, Blaine died in 1976, from pneumonia following exploratory surgery for cancer. My father died of a stroke in 1999. Arnelle lives in Medford, Oregon; Margie lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and JB lives in Kennewick, Washington. (Uncle Herb was killed when his car was hit by a drunk driver.) All have lost their spouses. My father married Ethel Harrison in 1948 (she is still living), they had three children besides me. I was born in 1949, and I have a sister Sarah and two brothers, Curtis and Dennis. Sarah has one son, Curt has a daughter, and Denny has two sons. Arnelle married Raymond Charters and had five children (four are still living), JB married Irene and they had two sons (both are still living), Margie married Jake Nugent and had three girls, two are still living, and Herb married Jerie Lindaeur and they had two children (both still living). Many years ago I drove through Oklahoma in the area where my father was born and grew up (around Hulbert) and visited Emmitt and Rosie Freeman... they were considered family members even though Emmitt had married Minnie (Blaine's sister) and she had been dead many many years, Rosie was his second wife. They were just wonderful people. Hope this is of interest to someone... Marie Deatherage Portland, Oregon Notify Administrator about this message?
