According to the "Deerman'Dearman and Related Families" by Velvo Chaney, James and Lucretia had 3 children: Thomas Bassett b. 1811 in Washington Cty., MS Terr. married Mary Ann Boykin 2 Apr. 1846 in Washington Cty., AL. 2. Melissa Ann Dearman b. 1815, Washington Cty, MS Terr. married Eli Y (I) Bowling 4 jan 1860 3. Sarah Dearman b. 29 Sept. 1819 Wash. MS Terr., died 1 July 1, 1894 in Wayne Cty., MS married 1 Mar. 1841 to Drury Runnels b. 1 Mar 1808 died 24 July 24, 1858 Wayne Cty., MS
Thomas B. and his two sisters were given slaves in a Deed of Gift by their mother in 1831. Later in a Deed of Gift dated 3 Jan 1837, Lucretia revoked all previous gifts and gave to Thomas ten slaves and all her interest in the cattle owned jointly between her and Thomas; all her interest in her father's estate and all legacies to which she might be entitled through her mother (Thomas Bassett, Jr. and Sarah Cleveland) . This Deed of Gift was made conditioned upon Thomas supporting Melissa Ann who was blind, in a decent and suitable manner during her lifetime.
I have other info on this family if you need it. Brenda
