Dearings/ Stokes Co.NC to Ohio and back
My search has been very complicated. My third great grandmother Nellie Deering was born April 15, 1821.She is listed on Pittsylvania County Va.census records as being born in Virginia.I thought probably in Pittsylvania Co. but I was informed recently that her sister lived at one time in Lynchburg, Bedford County, Va.I think that Nellie may have been born there.I also found out that, as a young girl, she traveled with her three sisters from Ohio back to Virginia, which may have been as early as the late 1830 or early 1840.Which is really unusual in those days.I think that Nellie may have been related to the Dearings of Stokes Co N.C. I found out that John Dearing born March 5, 1763 in Stokes Co NC moved to Ohio. I don't know what year but he died there June 11, 1845 in Hanging Rock, Lawrence County, Ohio. John was married to Ruhamah Davis, aunt of Jefferson Davis. They had a son named John R. Dearing born October 25, 1802.I can't find John R. Dearing's first wife's name but by her he had a daughter named Susan Dearing born April 25, 1821. Nellie had a sister named Susan Dearing.I am wondering if this Susan was Nellie's sister and I think that is a strange concidence that Nellie's birthdate and this Susans is almost the same.Nellie's April 15, 1821 and this Susan's was April 25, 1821.Could it be that the 15th and the 25th were at one time the same date but was later miscopied.Could they be twins? My hypothesis is that John R. had Susan, Nellie, Nancy and maybe a another daughter named Elizabeth. They were either born in Virginia and traveled to Ohio or they were born in Ohio. There mother either died and they were sent back to live with relatives because the husband remarried or the mother divorced the John and came back to Virginia with her children. I am stumped and could use some help.
Thanks,
Desiree Hurst
