Hi there
I noticed you are looking for for a Ted Dear, if you could give me a rough idea of his birth date or his parents names, I could check all my info and see if any of the Edwards there match up.
He could be a cousin to one of my mob who I've now traced back to the1500s.
I don't have anything obvious yet, but Arlesey was a major hive of activity for the Dear family since the1600s,and as Letchworth is only 3 miles away, it is very likely that your Ted or his parents, originally had connections with my Arlesey bunch and perhaps moved back from London when Letchworth and all its new industries were being built in the early 1900s.
If you don't know any more about Ted, I would suggest you try getting hold of a copy of his birth certificate, from the district office of where he was born, and that should give you his parents names, and occupations, once you have those, you may be able to get a copy of their marraige certificate, which would give you Teds Grandads name and occupation.
Then it would be a matter of working forwards again with the help of the local church records and census lists to see which Dears you are connected with that are around now.
Good Luck with your search
Tina
