Hi Jill,
My fathers name is Leonard James Deans dob 17/11/1927 Footscray Victoria Australia died 7/4/1997 Williamstown Vic, and his eldest brother was Donald Effingham Deans born 1911 Footscray, died 4/1/1960 Yarraville, they had 3 sisters and 1 other brother. Their father was James Deans dob 15/09/1888 Rutherglen died 4/5/1948 Yarraville, he was married to Vera May Leonard dob 6/11/1891 Oakleigh Vic, died 22/11/1967 Footscray.
I don't know anything further back but it looks like the Rutherglen Scotland Effingham Deans may be my relatives.
