My great grandmother was Janet Smith (15-4-1901). I remember an Effingham who used to make wooden toys, and was deaf and I think dumb. I was told that he was my grandmothers brother. As I can't find an Effingham Smith, I think maybe it was her cousin, and he was a Deans. Janet's mother's maiden name was Janet Deans who married a Robert Smith. I also have a great uncle called Effingham Donaldson, who changed his name to Ian - wonder why.
Does any of this mean anything to you?
Would appreciate any help you can provide.
Heather
