I too have heard the stories of a Govenor of Barbados in our family. I find it interesting that the first Govenor was a Deane, but he was also brought back to England and executed. I had never heard that Richard Adolphus Deane had turned down the position of Govenor, but maybe that is part of how the family story began. Unfortunately both my Grandmother Ruth and my Great Grandmother Roselle are not around to answer these questions. I wish I had been interested in Genealogy before my Grandmother passed away. By the time I started researching the family, she was unable to answer questions. I started out using Ancestry.com for my research, but have not used it in a long time other than the free world tree. I use Heritage Quest for census data and an assortment of other sites, such as familysearch.org, to find birth, death, etc records. I might try ordering the LDS record for William Lambe Deane to see if it has any additional inforation on it. I have heard that the archives in Barbados are a good resource also, but I have never had a chance to travel there. Maybe between the two of us, we can answer some of these questions. I have never been able to get anywhere with any of the maternal lines other than some of their maiden names. It would be exciting to trace all of the lines to their country of origin.
