Hoping to find information on Ancestors of James Deane born Dublin in 1820 (accordingly to Military Records) (born 1824 according to his marriage certificate). James Deane was a painter aand glazier, but enlisted in the 96th Regiment of Foot c 1838. He travelled to Australia with that Regiment as a Convict Guard on the Hindostan arriving in Tasmania 1841. James was court martialled in 1844 at Hobart Tasmania for striking a superior officer, and was sentenced to 14 years with hard labour. After he received his ticket of leave he married Honora Shinner at Westbury, Tasmania in 1854. They had 9 children all born at Westbury, Tasmania. Namely Margaret May Phoebe Matilda Bridget Ann John francis Luke Joseph Augustus. Katherine His wife Honora died in 1854 and it is likely James remarried.
