Lemuel filed a petition with the US Government stating he had a claim for property taken by the government in Sept 1864. It was sworn and subscribed on Dec 18, 1871. Witnesses listed are James Thurman, Mr.s Busby and Mrs. ? . In 1872 Samuel Dean completes a memorandum stating: Don't know him. If it is Lemuel Dean, he just the? may to claims what don't belong to him." The last page of another memorandum says "If this is Lemuel Dean, he is a rebel, & tricky enough to make his name Samuel Dean. The end says Opion of Thos F(?)
