This is along aricle in The Atlanta Constitution 3/27/1887. I am only mentioning the highlights of the name and places.
Gainesville: Mr. Issac Bales was plowing on property belonging to Colonel Samuel C Dunlapm which is located near the Chattaoochee river, three miles north of Gainesville. he found a jug which contained $1,190. The date on the coin was 1860 and been buried there for years. It is supposedly owned by Joseph Dunnegan, now deceased. Before the war Dunnegan went to California and returned to Georgia and hid the gold. He decided to return to the land of gold and his wife was troubled and would not go. He went to California and died there.
The place formerly owned by Dunnegan and his heirs passed into the handl of Colonel Dunlap about 10 years ago. He has owned it and up to this year has been under the control of Mr. John Deans.
