Hello, Charles,

My records show that the father of William Dean(e) who married Joan Selwood was Richard, b. ca. 1520. I have Joan's birthdate as ca. 1522, Chard, England. I have John as Richard's father, b. in the late 1400s, but data from earlier than 1500 is highly suspect.
Your 2) Walter, also b. in Chard, d. there before 10 July,1591.
My information has William, probably b. 1566 in Chard, England, m. a Margaret or Margerie Wickham, b. 1578, d. ca. 1634. William himself d. before 11 Oct, 1634, in Chard.
Walter Dean(e), first of our line to be in America, was b. before 13 May, 1612, and baptized on 13 May, 1612. He d. in Taunton MA after August 1693. Although earlier genealogies name Eleanor Strong as Walter's wife, recent research indicates rather convincingly that she was Eleanor Cogan, b. before 12 Oct, 1609, in Chard; d. after 25 August 1693. See H. Clark Dean's article "Eleanor Cogan: the Wife of Walter Dean of Taunton," in the July 1993 issue of New England Historical and Genealogical Register.
Mary Dean, daughter of Walter, I show as being b. in 1640, in Taunton. I would think that a more likely birthplace than Concord, as Walter settled there, and most of the following generations lived there, or in neighboring towns. Mary's husband Shadrach Wilbore was the Town Clerk of Taunton for 33 years.
I am descended from Walter directly through his son Ezra and indirectly through his daughter Mary.
Walter and his older brother John in 1635 or 1636, possibly in the ship "Speedwell." Along with their sister Margaret (or Margerie) they were the three youngest of William's large-ish brood, and the only ones to emigrate. Perhaps they found the leavings from William's estate so meager that emigration was forced upon them.
I hope this is useful. Good luck!
David Dean
