Kathy - I'm sure that we've got the right family- my grandfather was william lyles, his sister was virginia clare who had a daughter named arianna elizabeth. I have a copy of the Deakins family book, and I will see what I can find out. My dad told me that his grandfather was granted some land due to his service in the war that was located on the Cheat River. He then traded the hotel he established for some acreage upriver. He married Arianna Lyles. My sister has alot of pictures of the Deakins, we still are sorting through them. You can e mail me privatly if you want - I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother.
