Hi Katie, I was browsing through the Geforum messages and noticed your posting about the Deacon's and Clapham's. I'm not sure how many census records you have for them and you may have already the census records shown below, but I thought I would send them just in case you hadn't. I'm pretty sure they all relate to your families. I came across an 1871 census for a Clapham family living close by the Deacon's in Woodstock, NB. The head of the Clapham group is Charles G. and although it doesn't show a son Charles, there is a William of about the right age. Was thinking that maybe with a Charles already in the family, that they may have called the son by his second name. The 1850 census entries for both Charles G. and John L Clapham are also shown below. Although John L. had a son Charles, he appears as a one year old on the 1850 census, ten yrs on the 1860 (name shown as Charles A.) and there is a Charles A. Clapham on the 1880 Maine census born about 1850. I couldn't find Charles G. on the 1860 census in Maine, so he may have already have been in New Brunswick. This is probably a longshot, but I also came across an early military pension record (on Ancestry.com) for a Stephen Clapham who died in 1814 leaving a number of minor children, including Charles and John. It may be nothing, but thought it was worth including - shown at the end of this message. Hope this helps.
