My son is deaf too. We are starting to do his family tree. We were lucky that his grandmother on his fathers side of the family told us many of the names for those people.

The first thing to do is get as much information about your father as you can. Where was he born ... what is his birthday ... where did he go to church ... where did he go to school ... where did he get married?

Write everything in a notebook.

Then get your father's social security number. You can send for a copy of his original social security application form. That should have the names of his mother and father on it. It should also tell you where his parents were born.

Many people start to do a family tree and do not know about aunts and uncles. Don't worry about that just start with the person you know, your father.

A lot of 'research' can be done on the internet. A lot of research is done using the mail, sending letters to Historical Society. Almost every town has a Historical Society and many times information about the people who lived in the town is there.

It takes some time, but it can be very interesting to learn what our families were like a long time ago.

Hope to hear from you soon.
