There is a sizeable MAPLES clan in southeastern UNION CO NC-PAGELAND SC, near Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, descendants of William Charles "Charlie" Maples. His daughter Nancy Malinda Maples married James Albert Mills Sr. - there are extensive records of the Mills-Maples descendants of this couple. HELMS is a very common surname in this area also; the home of Sen Jesse Helms.
