Hello Jacky,
thanks for that information. Since I last posted, I have been in touch with the Royal School for the Deaf and they are conducting a search of their archives for my g-g-g-grandfather at the moment. They have found my g-g-g-grandmother was a pupil there, along with her brother, and will be sending me her records in due course. They have indeed been very helpful and I would recommend anyone researching their deaf ancestry to contact them, but echo your point about them being a working school - it is a long wait to hear from them, but be patient, they are doing this service around all their other work.
Fingers crossed they find my g-g-g-grandfather :)
Barbara
