Hi Chuck-Thanks so much for what you have tried to do looking for John W. Gordy. Know the cemetery is loaded with Gordys. There may not even be a tombstone for him,but I seem to remember one from the time I was a kid and my G. mother took me there.
The problem with the SSDI for me is that John W. was dead by the time S.S. came into being. I have his birth date ( depending upon who his father was ) as 1862 or 1868. He died early in 1900--probably around 1910. My G. mother was born about 1870-and remarried about 1924 . So she would no longer be Gordy on the SSDI lists. Don't think she worked anyway.
I have always loved mysteries, but this family mystery is getting to me!! I'll be waiting to see what you find, but in the meantime, thanks again. D.G.Grim
