The origins of PENTLAND & PENLAND

To All,

My ancestor roots are firmly planted in New Castle County in the early to mid-1700's. This time was the key link in the chain of my family history. New Castle County is where my family decided to transform the Scottish version of their surname from "PENTLAND" into the surname I have today: "PENLAND".
I know that NATHANIEL PENTLAND (lived in Lynn, Mass.) was one of the first settlers of New England prior to 1692, but that is all I know. Thus, there is a gap in my family history until 1736 when an ALEXANDER PENTLAND appears in New Castle County. I'm looking for any information to help me make the connection between NATHANIEL PENTLAND (from Massachusetts) and ALEXANDER PENTLAND (from Delaware). Here's the records I have located so far in New Castle County:

...12 May 1736 – ALEXANDER PENTLAND is a witness on a deed land record for Grace Vance (deceased). Who was his father??
...24 February 1737 – ALEXANDER PENTLAND (deceased) estate administrator bond (probable sons, JOHN & GEORGE PENTLAND listed).
...1748 – GEORGE PENTLAND is administrator of the estate of JOHN PENTLAND (Orphans’ Court Proceedings). 1753 – family history says GEORGE PENLAND (my 5th Great-Grampa and not to be confused with GEORGE PENTLAND) was born in St. George’s Hundred, New Castle County. Who was the father of my GEORGE??
...3 September 1760 – GEORGE PENTLAND (deceased, and probable son of ALEXANDER PENTLAND) estate administrator bond.
...2 June 1762 – WILLIAM PENLAND (oldest brother of my GEORGE PENLAND) married ANNIS DONNAL.
...22 April 1765 – WILLIAM PENLAND appears on Samuel Vail & Christiana Chuck marriage bond. 1765 – WILLIAM, ROBERT, and GEORGE PENLAND (brothers) moved to North Carolina.

Please contact me if you have any info!
