Salvatore Caruso
Is there a list of prisoners and/or workers at the New Castle County Workhouse? My great-grandfather's brother appears to have been a resident there around 1917, as stated on his WWI Draft and Registration card. My grandfather and I would very much to find out more about him, and have so far been unable to. We decided it would be a good idea to check if he died during his stint at the workhouse, which we know practically nothing about, other than it is now gone.
Rundown of facts:
FN: Salvatore or Samuel or Sam
LN: Caruso (or alternate spellings)
Born: December 22, 1890 in Caposele, Avellino, Italy
Married: July 29, 1909 to Antonia Sena; probably another marriage after in America
Death: ???
-----------
Around 1917, Giuseppe, my great-grandfather, and Salvatore got in a fight. We do not know what it was about, but Giuseppe always later said it was something stupid and pointless. Salvatore soon decided to leave, and he was rumored to have travelled to Delaware. According to a WWI D&R for Samuel Caruso (though he signed Sam), he was at New Castle County Workhouse when registering. He and Giuseppe registered within days of each other, so it is possible that they were still in contact. However, I believe all immigrants had to register at some point, so it may have been coincidental. Giuseppe spent most of his life after the war looking for his brother. He had a radio professional try as well, to no avail. Needless to say, Giuseppe never reconnected with his brother. It has now become a goal for his descendents to try and reconnect with any relatives we may have, to finish what Giuseppe started. I am his great-grandson, the first person in a while to attempt to find relatives. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.
And a warning for who you are working with, I am 14. So if I come across as dim, please: cut me a little slack.
Thanks in advance,
