Searching for ancestors of Abel Davis [c1765-1847]b. MD m. Mary, b. PA. Abel was a cooper by trade.In 1795 Abel & fam. lived in Monongalia Co., VA. About 1818 most moved to Champaign Co., OH where Mary, d. <1828 and Abel m. Catherine Kirkwood 3 May 1828.
In 1752 Abel Davis, cooper of East Nantmel Twp., Chester Co., PA accepted Benjamin Mathews as an apprentice.In 1770 an Abel Davis was baptized at Welsh Tract Baptist Church, Chester Co., PA.
Rev. Timothy Griffith, Presbyterian m. Sarah. During his life he acquired 250 acres of land in Pencader Hundred that included Iron Hill.Rev. Griffithd. 1747 in Bucks Co., PA. His widow, Sarah became administrator of her deceased husband's estate.

By deed dated 19 Feb 1755 Sarah Griffith, Administrator sold 250 acres of land in Pencader Hundred to Abel Davis who became operator of the Iron Hill ore pits.
Abel & Sarah became members of the Welsh Tract Baptist Chruch, Pencader Hundred.
Abel & Sarah were parents of 5 children:Mary Ann Davis, who m. Alex McDonald, Hannah Davis, m. Benjamin King; Rachel Davis and two sons John Davis, m. Sarah and Benjamin Davis, m.
Abel d. testate in Newark 1790 appointing Sarah, his widow & son John Executors. Sarah Davis executed her will 4 Jun 1785 which was proved 9 Jan 1796.
Sarah's heirs included her children John, Rachel, Mary & Hannah. She did not specifically name her son Benjamin but included his children, Abel, Sarah and Hannah Davis. She gave her bed and bedding to her g.dau Sarah Perry and her tea table to g.dau. Mary Perry (bed, bedding and tea table all in Philadelphia) Does anyone recognize the Perry family of Philadelphia?
Eventually the Pencader Hundred land came into ownership of descendant, Isaac Davis about 1848.

I hope this information helps some Davis researcher. I am seeking to prove that Abel Davis, b. c. 1765 in MD is related to this Davis family through one of the brothers of Abel Davis [c1725-1790] The Rev. John Davis [1721-1809] who m. Jane Van Voorst or David Davis.
