Hello Tom,
The Cannons in my line go way back before the ones you speak of. My 6th great grandfather, Henry b 1704 in Nanticoke, Wicomico, Maryland. However, at that time, Wicomico did not exist, only Somerset. The Nanticoke refers to the Nanticoke Hundred of the time and the area most likely was in western Sussex, DE, which is fairly consistent with later records when he dies in 1881 in Sussex, DE. His father and granfather, James [jr] and James b 1661 and 1645 in Dorchester, MD which was a part of the Nanticoke Hundred at that time. James had a son, Thomas, b 1645 so maybe you could search him forward and see if he connects with you somehow.
