Townsend family in Delaware - Not descended from William Penn??

I have been researching for quite some time to try and find the origin of the Townsend family who settled in Delaware. I have searched in many areas including web genealogy sites, Delaware Historical Society, Quaker Libaray at Swarthmore college, and the Townsend Society of America.

The only found information ( Arthur B. Liston letter -1966) claims that the Townsend family in Delaware descends from the Townsend family that came to the US from England with William Penn.

I have researched all of the Townsend families that came with William Penn, and I can find no connection to the Townsend family that came to Delaware and eventually settled in the town of Townsend, Delaware.

Specifically, I am trying to find the parents of John Townsend who was born abt 1746 in Sussex County, Delaware and married Sarah Ann Liston in 1769 in Sussex County, Delaware.

If you have any information or opinoins about the parents of this John Townsend, I would very much like to hear them.

Thank you for reading this post.
