Hi Janelle;
I also grew up in Anacostia We lived at the top of the hill on W St above 16th St. I went to Ketchum from 1957 (Mrs Kimball) until 1960 (Mrs Queball). I remember the Anacostia Theater. It had a glassed in nursery upstairs. We used to love Sam's Market on the corner of 16th And U because they sold wax lips and licorice shoe laces. We went to the Baptist church that I think was on Minnesota Ave. My dentist's office was on Minnesota just off Good Hope Rd. The Anacostia Library was a wonderful cool place to go in the summer. I haven't been back in 50 years but I can still remember the neighborhood like it was yesterday. I often think about going back and walking around but that doesn't seem feasible.
