THE POST'S BOYS AND GIRLS
SNIPS AND CLIPS
BYGRANNYSCRAPBAG.
WELL, it is some comfort to an abused old woman to know that some one has a kind
thought for her. I usually get such tender epithets applied to me as "horrid old
woman" or "greedy Granny Scrapbag," so I nearly choked to death on my strings when I
read that Atalanta had sent me her love. I was so surprised that I tried to swallow
them, instead of the juicy drawing furnished me by Blunderer. Of course, it was quite
a blunder for him to use blue ink. Your Aunt Anna insisted that it was not quite the
thing for me to swallow a church, and she hoped that I would see stars if I did.
Well, I did both things. The drawing was of a church with a sky background studded
with blue - alas, Blunderer - very blue stars. Black ink next time.
Henry BAZATA, of Brent School, drawing in blue ink; John A. SMITH, of St.
Patrick's Academy, a very blue house, surrounded by very blue trees. You are a nature
faker, John. Elenore EBY, of Franklin School, a blue ship, riding a blue sea. The sea is
all right if it could be photographed, but, alas, again more wasted time and energy.
Willie DAVIS, who has won a number of prizes and ought to know better, sent in a
purple drawing. Why will you, Will? As a consequence of eating so much blue food I
have a bad case of the blues. Won't some one else send me a loving greeting to cheer me
up?
There are some drawings that I really refuse to eat. Oh, yes; I have a warm old
heart if I do wear on my "'forehead a terrible frown," as some impolite person has
remarked. These drawings are from the babies, 4 and 6 and 7 rears old. I tuck them
under a cushion in the cozy corner just to look at when I feel downhearted. Oh, no; I
never eat them, even when I am hungry.
Cousin Kate, I saw your letter, and I should have it in my bag this minute, but
as it is so interesting your Aunt Anna has hid it from me; but I saw that it was
written on both sides of the sheet. And I am hungry, too.
